Hollywood movie icons morph into a gay sailor and two U.S. Navy investigators in search of an unidentified woman named Dorothy who organizes networks of gay servicemen as “friends of Dorothy.” Chasing Rainbows is a bent identity parody based on actual U.S. Navy investigations that took place between 1980 and 1990. These investigations discharged over 17,000 servicemen for being queer. Spoiler alert: They never found Dorothy.
The approval of the first oral contraceptive pill in 1960 was a watershed moment for American women. Inspired by the lyrics of the song "The Pill" by Loretta Lynn, Nursery Hill captures this sea change in the lives of a young suburban married couple, Rosie and Frank, when Frank finds the pill in his wife's nightstand drawer. As Rosie yearns for a life beyond motherhood, she invokes Gaia, the mother goddess herself in human form, to support and sustain her.
POLICE ACTIVITY: A possible home burglary attempt causes Daniel and Chris to reassess their sex lives, reminiscing nostalgically about a wild and erotic night when the world was supposed to end, December 31, 1999, YK2.
Even for You, Marilyn Van Derburt takes place 1969. The Stonewall Riots in New York City marked a new beginning for the gay rights movement. The evening after the Stonewall Riots, Tim stops by Peter’s apartment (they reside in the same building) to introduce himself and to ask Peter to join him in the protests taking place that evening .During their conversation both men realize they have the will to fight for their rights as human beings.
Champagne in Dixie Cups - It is October 11, 1987 - Washington DC. A trio of friends have just attended the first viewing of the AIDS quilt to mourn and remember the loss of a loved one. While toasting to the fallen, a simple proposition is proposed to the couple who are facing the inevitable.
Keeping Secrets takes place in 1985 in New York City when the AIDS epidemic has already taken a deadly toll, but most people -- including the President of the United States -- prefer not to talk about it. In a Brooklyn apartment, a young man with AIDS and his brother faces a family-shaking decision: Their mother is unaware that her first-born son is very ill with the "virus," so what should she be told and who should tell her?
A Fruit Pie for Anita - In a fabulous 1970s kitchen, two activists argue over their next protest. Thom, a principled pacifist, plans to throw a pie in the face of homophobic singer Anita Bryant, believing a pie made with love will make a loud statement. His friend Bruce, more radical and frustrated with Thom's pacifism, ridicules the plan, arguing that true change requires a stronger stance, perhaps even violence.
To Canterbury They Went is a humorous take on creative inspiration. It’s thirteen-eighty-something and Geoffrey Chaucer is hunkered down with quill and a lot of ink as he begins writing a tome for the ages. But what is it about? His Wyf, who possesses a serious itch to leave the house, may just have the answer he’s looking for. Warning: contains several (recognizable) lines of bona fide Middle English!
"A Shrovetide Play is centered in the political and social disruptions of the mid-20th century and the role of the theater in those tumultuous times."
Inspired by Edward Hopper's painting from 1960, Second Story Sunlight explores the lives and the relationship of two women—one older, one younger--sitting on a balcony overlooking the ocean. How much has life changed (and has NOT changed) for women in America since 1960?
